The Willie Bilancio Community Labyrinth

About our LABYRINTH

Our labyrinth is a memorial to the late Willie Pugh Bilancio, who was an early supporter of the labyrinth and substantially donated to its construction.

We conceived the idea of a community labyrinth in 2018. After several years of discernment, we launched a fundraising campaign in 2022. We invited parish and community members to purchase gift bricks in honor or memory of family and friends. We also applied for and received a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester. In 2023, we built and dedicated the labyrinth.

David Tolzmann of the Labyrinth Company™ designed this pre-fabricated labyrinth based on the renown labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France. The model is called Chelsea à la Chartres™.

John Ritter of Legendary Landscapes installed the labyrinth kit, the gift brick pathway leading to the labyrinth entrance, and the butterfly garden surrounding the labyrinth.

This labyrinth is 21 feet in diameter. It has five circuits and can accommodate four to eight walkers.

St. Thomas' Episcopal Church offers this labyrinth as a gift to the Village of Bath—a quiet place where residents and visitors can walk, sit, pray, and meditate.

The labyrinth is always open for individual, self-directed walks. Occasionally, St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church hosts guided group walks. Join our mailing list for announcements of upcoming group walks.

What is a Labyrinth?

A labyrinth is a meandering, single path leading to and from a center. Unlike a maze, you can never get lost in a labyrinth. Walking a labyrinth in silent prayer and meditation is an ancient spiritual practice. Click here to learn more about labyrinths.
